About

LAURA

I’m a life long photography enthusiast who was lucky enough to marry someone who encouraged me to pursue my high school dreams!

I received a Certificate in Photographic Studies in June 2017 from The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, Ryerson University, with a 4.0 GPA.

INSPIRATION

Picture it, The Kawartha Lakes, August 2017... (Nice Sophia Petrillo reference, right?!) Sitting on the end of the dock in my favourite Muskoka chair, enjoying a Cesar, watching the perfect sunset over the lake and a moment of inspiration hits….*I’m also concurrently kind of obsessed with those amazing new silver and gold 40” foil letter and number balloons that I saw on Keeping Up With The Kardashians (*I know, I know…but Kendall and Kylie’s “High School Grad” party did look amazing with those balloons! #facts.) and I'm trying to find an excuse to get some.

My inner monologue starts running.... “Wouldn’t it be so amazing to make a bespoke, customized photograph that was an homage to the cottage, to The Hip, and the amazing town of Bobcaygeon?” And that’s how the inspiration struck for my first fine art print, “Bobcaygeon” #1.

I love clean, totally unique images that seem impossible to execute, waiting for the perfect golden hour light to create magical images with constant inspiration from the land, the people and the culture that is Canada. A Laura Martin Fine Art Photography image can be both completely staged (the balloons), and un-staged (the wind, sun, clouds, bugs, snow) at the same time to create these unique love letters to Canada.

Is The Tragically Hip your soundtrack to the cottage? Are they the soundtrack of your youth?

 -> Bobcaygeon #1, #2, and #3 are your jam.

Love Celine Dion, The Queen of Canada? The person who feels emotions more than any other person ever, and who single handedly re-wrote the script on how Las Vegas entertains its guests?

 -> Las Vegas #1, #2, #3, and #4 are for you.

Love Schitt’s Creek? Of course you do, who doesn’t love Schitt’s Creek?

 -> “Ew, David” #1, #2 and “Ew, David” Dreamy are a good starting point for you.

Was your local Mac’s Milk or Quickie Mart and $5 the key to your favourite summer time lunch as a kid in small town Northern Ontario?!

-> “Chips, Pop & a Bar”, #1-11 are for you.

All different, yet connected with a thread of Canadian familiarity.

I hope you love the images as much as I loved creating them.

MY LOGO

So first, a side bar to my logo story;

I met Dan Levy at the Smut Soiree (thank you Lainey Gossip!) in June of 2012.

He had just launched his amazing eye wear line, DL Eye Wear and of course purchased a pair for my reading glasses.

9 years later, I've had the prescription updated, and still wear them almost daily.

Fast forward to 2017, when creating the vibe, vision and feel for Laura Martin Fine Art Photography, I searched high and low on Etsy for a unique, quirky, and fun pre-made logo.

Then I saw it! The perfect logo from Etsy store Lolly Jane Studios which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia - it was just like my glasses - Serendipity!
